Laguna Woods holds a special place in the heart of Nate Morrissey, owner of Blue Sky Estate Services. It was the home of the first client he helped in 2007. A woman who lived in New York lost her mom living in Laguna Woods. Nate helped with the estate liquidation of the home and shipping of items back to New York. There was one item that Stephanie did not feel comfortable shipping, and that was her mom’s glass vase. Nate told her she needed to take it on the plane with her, but she didn’t think TSA would allow it. Nate called the head of the TSA at Orange County Airport and was ensured that it wouldn’t be a problem. As a back-up plan, Stephanie agreed to arrive at the airport an extra half hour early so if there was a problem, Nate would go to the airport and pick up the vase. Later that night Nate received a text saying both her and the vase arrived safely.
Fun Facts about Laguna Woods
About ninety percent of the city consists of Laguna Woods Village, a private gated retirement community, formerly known as Leisure World. The other ten percent consists of businesses and the city hall, which are available to the public. Incorporation efforts in the late 1990’s were largely driven by the need for residents to have a stronger voice against the prospective construction of an international airport at the nearby decommissioned Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. The airport proposal was defeated and the land in question has been tabbed for development as the Orange County Great Park.
